Film at the Fort

Van 14-23 Augustus is er een open lucht bioscoop gebouwd in Fort Canning. Arnoud ging Zaterdagavond koken en ik ging met een grote groep mee naar het park om de film 'Shawshenk Redemption' te zien. Movie under the stars! Picknickmanden mee en de opblaas kussentjes hadden we van te voren besteld. We maakten een pot voor het water, bier en wijn. We waren wel met 20 man, waaronder meerdere nieuwkomers. Leuk initiatief, relaxe avond! Ik was er jaren niet geweest.

Redelijke 'movie star foto', stuurde een vriendinnetje op, gemaakt op Vlieland!

Verder begon het hockey weer en hadden we een verjaardag waar we als gezin naartoe gingen, dat gebeurt niet zo vaak. Gezellig! Myrthe speelde eindeloos met haar lego friends. Mabs en Merle zorgden  voor 3 logee-friends op de Vrijdagavond! Nu op een holletje nog op jacht naar gymschoenen, o sorry, 'P.E.' shoes.

Imagine a place in Singapore where Malay royalty once ruled in medieval times, the British decided to surrender to the invading Japanese during the Second World War, and more recently, some of the world’s biggest music acts played to screaming audiences.

This unlikely combination of events has taken place at the hilltop Fort Canning Park, one of the country’s historical landmarks. The park was originally known as Bukit Larangan, or 'Forbidden Hill' in Malay. Today, the 18-hectare space is chock full of attractions – from ancient artefacts for history buffs to outdoor lawns for concerts, and of course, greenery for nature lovers. The charming boutique Hotel Fort Canning, also lies here.

Some highlights include the Maritime Corner @ Fort Canning which tells the story of Singapore's evolution from an entrepot trading post to an international maritime centre, and the Fort Gate, a remnant of a fortress built that was built here in the 19th Century. There's also the Spice Garden, the ASEAN Sculpture Garden and Battle Box, a former underground military complex that was used in WWII.
