17 November 2015Dear Parents,
I am sure you have been witnessing with sadness, as I have, the recent devastating global attacks.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of each country, and we hope that if you have family
in these regions that your loved ones are safe.
As we enter Uniting Nations week at Lakeside, we are reminded of the ethos of our school and
the IB mission, where together we aim to develop “caring young people who help to create a better
and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect”.
Our “CIS.United” Uniting Nations celebrations at Lakeside this week will continue, and are perhaps
even more important in light of recent tragedies. We will celebrate this week in the same spirit of pride
and unity that we enjoy at CIS on a daily basis. Although there may be political tensions globally, our overriding
goal for UN week is to respect all nationalities.
However, the recent tragedies will not go unacknowledged. We will be having a moment of reflection
at 8.30am this Thursday, where students’ focus will be guided towards how we can encourage
those around us to come together and unite in peace. I encourage you to discuss this reflection with
your children over dinner on Thursday night, as it is together that we will exhibit intercultural understanding,
open mindedness and tolerance.
Friday will remain a day of celebration as our diverse community of nationalities come together,
united for a common purpose in valuing all the people that encompass and shape our CIS family.
Sincerely,
Dr. Glenn Odland
